Our Favorite Things to Do in Atlantic City

Boat on the beach in Atlantic City with the boardwalk and lights in the background at dusk

One of the most exciting resort cities in the United States, Atlantic City is home to a surplus of must-see attractions, restaurants, and entertainment options. Our recreational cannabis dispensary, The Healing Side, is located at 2415 Pacific Avenue, and as part of our desire to connect with residents and tourists alike, we’ve decided to compile some of our top recommendations for things to do in this bustling, vibrant city we love.

12 Fun Things to Do in Atlantic City, Courtesy of The Healing Side Budtenders

In no particular order, here are 12 spots for you and yours to explore while in Atlantic City:

Stroll Down the Atlantic City Boardwalk

The city’s iconic boardwalk stretches 5 miles. Since it runs parallel to the beautiful Atlantic Ocean, you’ll get to enjoy lovely views of the water as you stroll (or bike!) along the boardwalk, which features shops, restaurants, historic landmarks, arcades, and so much more.

Have Fun at Steel Pier Amusement Park

The Steel Pier is a historic amusement park located along the boardwalk. It’s a great spot for individuals, couples, and families with children who want to spend the afternoon or evening riding thrill rides, playing games, or taking a ride on The Wheel, a Ferris-wheel style attraction that offers breathtaking views of the city and its coastline.

Pay to Play at One or More of the Casinos

If you like to gamble and want to try to win big, the casinos across Atlantic City give adults 21 and older a chance to play slots or table games such as blackjack and poker. Borgata, Caesars, and Harrah’s are among the many lively casinos in Atlantic City, and most have delicious restaurants inside as well as regular entertainment events planned for guests.

Spend a Day on the Beach

Atlantic City is home to many beaches that invite you to unwind, listen to the seagulls overhead, and enjoy the crashing of the waves in front of you. Perhaps you’ll swim, read a book, take a nap, get a tan . . . the choice is yours!

Pay a Visit to the Absecon Lighthouse

Should you be in the mood to get some exercise during your time in Atlantic City, our expert budtenders at The Healing Side recommend climbing the 228 steps inside the tallest lighthouse in New Jersey. The Absecon Lighthouse will give you stellar views of the city and ocean once you reach the top, making the climb well worth the effort.

Shop, Dine, and Be Entertained in The Quarter at Tropicana

The Quarter at Tropicana is a fabulous shopping and entertainment district located at Tropicana Casino & Resort Atlantic City. The Quarter cultivates a high-energy shopping and dining experience, and its Old Havana-theme contributes to its ongoing allure.

Beat the Heat Inside The Atlantic City Aquarium

The Atlantic City Aquarium gives you the chance to see marine mammals such as octopuses, turtles, stingrays, seahorses, and jellyfish up-close. Situated in Gardner’s Basin in the inlet section of Atlantic City, this welcoming indoor aquarium also serves as a great place to learn about local marine life. PLEASE NOTE: THE ATLANTIC CITY AQUARIUM REMAINS CLOSED FOR CONSTRUCTION, BUT THE AQUARIUM IS SCHEDULED TO REOPEN ON JULY 1, 2024.

Find a Seafood Restaurant That Appeals to You

It should come as no surprise that Atlantic City has an abundance of seafood restaurants. The city’s proximity to the ocean means that you’re in for a treat if you like eating fresh-caught seafood. There are a wide variety of seafood restaurants lining the boardwalk as well as in The Marina District. Whether you prefer upscale dining or you’re interested in a more casual and laid-back atmosphere, you’ll be impressed by the variety of establishments surrounding you in Atlantic City.

Purchase Artwork at Noyes Arts Garage of Stockton University

Noyes Arts Garage of Stockton University is home to artists’ studios, and these artists invite you to stop by to witness their creative process and even purchase original artwork. These galleries and shops are beloved by artists and art-lovers alike because they give you a glimpse of Atlantic City’s art scene and the diverse range of styles, mediums, and perspectives produced here.

Buy Tickets for a Concert or Event at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall

The Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall accommodates nearly 15,000 people. As Atlantic City’s largest entertainment venue, this arena hosts concerts, live sports, and festivals throughout the year. We recommend checking the website for the full schedule of events.

Browse the Collections at African American Heritage Museum of Southern New Jersey (AAHMSNJ)

African American cultural and historical artifacts are on display at AAHMSNJ. This museum also showcases the work of local artists in Southern New Jersey. The thoughtfully curated displays and friendly staff make this a museum that our budtenders would describe as both impactful and worthwhile.

Board a Dolphin Watching Cruise

Want to see dolphins jumping out of the water? Join Atlantic City Cruises for a relaxing cruise on the Atlantic Ocean so you can try to spot these magnificent creatures swimming and frolicking in their natural habitat. Each cruise even comes complete with an onboard marine naturalist who will be able to answer any questions you have about the ocean and the fascinating creatures that inhabit it.
